Culture shock can occur in any situation where you are forced to adjust to an unfamiliar system in which many of your previous ways of doing or understanding things no longer apply.

                                            POLLUTION (no copie la lectura)

There are lots of environmental problems nowadays, mainly because of pollution. It is the contamination of air, water and soil by different materials that interfere with human health and quality of life. The emissions form industries and engines, including cars, are big causes of air pollution and simple things that we do at home, like using aerosols, have bad effects on the ozone layer, which protects life on Earth from ultraviolet radiation. Water is also suffering from pollution by domestic, municipal and also industrial waste. It is up to us to stop damaging the environment. We all should be environment friendly!

MINDFULLNESS ACTIVITY (no copie la lectura)
Humans and the Environment

(1) Human beings have a profound impact on their environment. Because they are constantly building and developing, this impact is not always good. As humans claim land for their own purposes, animals sometimes lose their habitats and, with nowhere to live, they can become extinct. This can happen to bacteria, plants, insects, animals, and even indigenous peoples.
(2) A habitat may not be entirely destroyed but may still be fragmented, or broken into pieces. This can force creatures to move to habitats that are already occupied, which can put a stress on the availability of food and water, as well as cause territorial conflicts. When trees are torn from the ground, erosion becomes a problem as rain water washes away the rich top soil. The area can become hot and dry, and the change in microclimate can be another reason why the species that live there become extinct.
(3) Human development, especially for purposes of mining and oil extraction can also cause pollution.

A. TYPES OF DEMOCRACY
B. HISTORY
 C. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT

1.______________________________________________________________ The word democracy describes a form of government. The word comes from two Greek words that mean “rule by the people.” In a democracy, the people have a say in how the government acts. They do this by voting, though there are usually rules about who can vote. Democracies are different from dictatorships. In a dictatorship, one person called a dictator makes all the rules. 2.__________________________________________________ There are two main forms of democracy. In a direct democracy, all the voters come together in one place to make laws and decisions. Often there are too many people for a direct democracy to work. In those cases, the people elect representatives, or other people to speak for them. This is a representative democracy. The elected representatives make the laws and decisions. 3.___________________________________________________ The first democracies were in ancient Greece more than 2,000 years ago. Those did not last long, however. After that, kings and other rulers had all the power in their countries. In about the 1200s, however, some rulers began to allow certain citizens to be part of the government. By the 1600s and 1700s,some people began to think that every person had certain rights. These included the right to participate in their government. In the British colonies of North America, the colonists felt that the king did not allow them to participate enough. They fought a war to gain their freedom. When they won the war, they established the United States as a republic. A republic is a form of democracy in which the citizens vote for the people who make the laws. They also vote for the leader of the country, who is often a president. Many other countries became republics as well. Other countries kept their kings or queens but still became democracies. Monarchies with democracy received the name of constitutional monarchies. In such countries, the people vote for representatives. The king or queen is the head of the country, but they have little real power.

(No pase la lectura)

Every culture has myths, stories, legends and folklore. They show what different communities and groups of people think about the world and the way they perceive it. Oral arts and traditions are a way to preserve and transmit customs and values as well as to shape behavior.
An interesting discovery about myths in cultures is that there are universal myths that are common to different cultures all around the world. These similarities relate to images, narrative structures, events and characters that created to answer the most common questions that humans usually have, such as the origin of the universe and the meaning of life.
For example, similar myths and legends about epic cosmic battles or a Great Flood are similar in Christian and Jewish tradition, as well as in Sumerian, Greek, Hindu, Mayan, and Native American legends. The most similar belief in all cultures is the existence of a great supreme being that created everything.
